AMERICAN FAMILY

INSURANCE

Jayson Hanschu Agency Inc.

Address: 104 E. First St., Suite A.

Phone: 620-947-5686; toll free: 1-800-789-5686; office fax: 620-947-2382.

Web: jaysonhanschuagency. com or amfam.com

Email: [email protected]

Year opened: American Family Insurance has been in Hillsboro/Marion County since 1987. Jayson Hanschu has been an American Family agent since 1998, and has been the agent in this area since 2000.

About us: We sell and service a variety of insurance products such as vehicle, home, farm, business and many types of life insurance. We strive to make American Family Insurance a visible and viable part of our local community here in Hillsboro, Marion County and the surrounding area.

News from 2017: Our Agency was designated as a “Dream Champion Agency” for 2017. The award is based on a combination of parameters involving sales, service, retention, satisfaction, and agency operations as a whole. Only about 20 percent of Am Fam agencies have achieved “Dream Champion” status thus far. Jayson was elected and continues to serve on the “state agency council” as a district representative for American Family agents. Agency council reps are a vital link in connecting needs of the “field” with decisions at “corporate” and vice versa. Jayson sees this role as key in making sure Am Fam stays “in touch” with the needs of current and prospective customers. For the 13th year in a row, we were awarded the American Star Agency Award for Excellence in Customer Experience. Once again, 2017 was an amazing year at our agency, and for that we thank our customers and the local communities. As technology becomes more and more an everyday part of our lives, we continue to look for ways to utilize technology to add value for our clients. This includes a Facebook page, updated software quoting systems, as well as allowing more functions to be done online if clients so choose. But, in all this, we at the local agency still continue to focus our efforts on service and building professional and long-lasting relationships with clients and prospects. And, yet again in 2017, our agency has continued to grow; and for that, we say “Thanks!” to you, our clients. We look forward to continuing to serve you.

Looking to 2018: New in January is our “Dream Secured Whole Life Policies”— five new whole-life policies with one designed for everyone: children, young adults, families, middle-aged and the older generation.

Starting in 2017 and continuing into 2018, American Family Insurance will be doing some significant updating to its products and processing systems—all designed to make our products more marketable to our clients’ needs and our processes more efficient for all users. Our corporate website, amfam.com, continues to add features and make improvements, not only in regard to paying capability and claim reporting for our insureds, but also in regard to quoting and 24-hour service accessibility for all.

Am Fam corporate is focusing much attention on upgrading our mobile device technology. Jayson will continue to serve his term as an agency council rep to make sure local voices and concerns are heard by corporate.

Locally, we take seriously our role to educate clients on the subject of insurance and being an adviser/consultant on the topic. With today’s volatile fiscal and litigious environment, we will continue to do insurance reviews, adjust policies as needed to higher liability limits, as well as adding umbrella liability coverage when appropriate.

We also will continue to adjust and complete clients’ insurance portfolios by adding life insurance for financial protection in case tragedy were to occur. Our MyLife flexible life insurance policies can ensure sure you have the financial protection you need. Even if you are not a current client, you are welcome to call or come by for a free, no-obligation insurance review and quote comparison on any or all of your insurance needs.

FAST REALTY

Address: 102 S. Main

Phone: 620-947-5700

Web: fastrealtyinc.com

Email: [email protected]

Year opened: 2002

About us: Fast Realty prides itself as being a one-stop agency for residential, commercial and rural properties. We are mindful of the trust our clients have put in us and continually strive to conduct business as honestly and ethically as possible, knowing that a home purchase is the most expensive purchase most of us will make in our lifetime. With that being said, we welcome the opportunity to walk beside our clients through this difficult process which, for most clients, is not familiar. As the real estate market changes, we continue to educate ourselves about current trends and new technology, and we know well the market we are serving. Glenn Thiessen, owner and broker is certified for all facets in regard to the buying and selling process and has qualified for the President’s Award of Excellence, which is the highest award given through our Multi Listing Service, South Central KS Real Estate Association, the past nine years. Glenn enjoys leading first-time home buyers through the home-buying process. He is a certified senior specialist, knowing the unique challenges our seniors are going through as they transition to the next stage in life. Plus, everyone in between—those making lateral moves, to investors, and those new to our community.

Looking to 2018: Fast Realty is anticipating another good year as the real estate market across the country is in a gradual upswing and not expected to peak for several more years. We have had a relatively mild winter, making for steady movement of homes, and as the temperatures rise, so does our buying and selling season. Interest rates are still very favorable for buyers, so we see the Hillsboro and Marion County markets staying strong. We have had many recent improvements going on in Hillsboro, which makes for a desirable community in which to relocate, grow a business and raise a family.

Hours: We are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Glenn is available for after-hour appointments by calling his cell phone 620-382-4682.

HILLSBORO COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

Address: P.O. Box 273, Hillsboro, KS 67063

Phone: 620-947-0170

Web: hcfoundationks.org

Email: [email protected]

Year opened: Hillsboro Community Foundation was formed in 2004 with the vision of connecting caring donors to worthy causes.

About us: The Hillsboro Community Foundation exists to promote and facilitate charitable giving in support of projects and programs that enhance the quality of life in the Hillsboro community. In fulfilling that mission, the HCF plays many roles, but primarily serves to: (1) receive and manage donor funds for projects benefiting the Hillsboro community and the area; (2) help donors identify local organizations, projects and programs that meet their philanthropic goals; and (3) serve as an ambassador promoting the needs of the Hillsboro community. In addition, the HCF serves as an important forum for discussing how private philanthropy and giving can support the long-term needs of the community. Governed by a board of directors, representing a variety of local interests in the community, the foundation is making efforts for positive change and is charged by the momentum of key leaders working together. This collaborative approach also minimizes the duplication of effort across organizations.

News from 2017: In February, HCF distributed a record $21,461 among 15 area non-profit organizations. A total of $460,063 in grants and scholarships have been given to the community since the formation of the foundation. In 2014, the board set a goal to reach $2 million in total assets. At that time, the total assets were $1.612 million. Five percent of the endowment returns to our community each year, providing opportunities, services and a future for the non-profit organizations in the community. The board is proud to announce that the $2 million goal has been reached through the generosity of people in the Hillsboro community. The foundation currently has $2.1 million in assets.

Looking to 2018: We will again be awarding additional grants to deserving organizations and causes in the Hillsboro area. We also will continue to pursue our three priority goals listed above. Grant applications were received from various non-profit organizations in the local community during December and early January. Grant awards were presented Feb. 2 in the high school and checks will be presented at halftime of the boys’ varsity game that evening. In May, scholarships will be given o many deserving high school seniors.

Owner: HCF is an affiliate of Central Kansas Community Foundation.

HILLSBORO DEVELOPMENT CORP. / HVI

Address: 116 E. Grand

Phone: 620-947-3458

Website: cityofhillsboro.net/doingbusiness

Email: [email protected]

Year opened: Chartered in 1968

About us: The primary objective of Hillsboro Development Corp. is to cultivate and promote a positive business climate in Hillsboro and the surrounding community. A major contribution over the years has been the development of Hillsboro Industrial Park, presently home to 12 business owners. Recognizing the importance of assisting and developing entrepreneurs, HDC established Hillsboro Ventures Inc. (HVI) in 2007 specifically to support entrepreneurs by surrounding them with resources needed to become successful through the business start-up or expansion phase. In 2009 HDC/HVI made application for Hillsboro to be an Entrepreneurial Community (E-Community) to NetWork Kansas. The E-Community designation allowed us to establish a revolving loan fund through the sale of tax credits. To date we have assisted 10 business start-ups or expansions with low-interest loans.

News from 2017: In the past decade, Hillsboro capital expenditures in both public and private sectors have totaled nearly $5 million per year. The result of months and years of planning, Hillsboro’s economy saw the largest spike in capital expenditures in history totaling $32 million in 2017. The large number of expansion projects to be completed this year will have a longterm and positive effect on the local community, ranging from additional services and job creation to increased revenue from property-tax valuation. The major building projects include the new community hospital, Shari Flaming Center for the Arts, Hillsboro Hometown Pharmacy, MB Foundation office complex and several retail business expansions. HDC/HVI will continue to work with business prospects to occupy vacant buildings on Main Street and in Hillsboro Heights.
